 1.Plantation and Adoption of a Tree:


  Importance

  • Environmental Impact: Trees absorb carbon dioxide, release oxygen, and act as natural air purifiers. They help in reducing air pollution, combating urban heat islands, and mitigating climate change.

  • Biodiversity Conservation: Planting trees supports ecosystems by providing shelter and food for countless species of birds, insects, and animals.

  • Water Conservation: Trees help in conserving water by reducing runoff and promoting groundwater recharge.

  • Community Benefits: Green spaces improve mental well-being, enhance the aesthetic appeal of areas, and provide shade and cooling in urban landscapes.

  1. Botanical Description


The orange (Citrus × sinensis), a member of the Rutaceae family, is a widely cultivated evergreen tree known for its economic and nutritional significance. Typically growing to a height of 5–10 meters, the tree has a rounded, dense canopy, making it an attractive addition to orchards and landscapes. Its leaves are simple, dark green, and glossy, with an elliptic to ovate shape and a slightly wavy margin. Arranged alternately on the branches, the leaves release a distinctive citrus aroma when crushed. The tree produces small, white, and highly fragrant flowers, often growing in clusters. Each flower contains five petals and numerous stamens and is perfect, possessing both male (stamens) and female (carpels) reproductive structures, ensuring efficient pollination, often assisted by insects. The fruit of the orange tree is classified as a hesperidium, a specialized berry with a leathery, brightly colored rind. The peel contains oil glands that emit a refreshing citrus fragrance and is often used for essential oils. Inside, the fruit is divided into segments filled with juice vesicles, offering a sweet to tangy flavor depending on the variety. While some varieties are seeded, others are parthenocarpic, producing seedless fruit. The tree thrives in tropical and subtropical climates, requiring well-drained soils, moderate rainfall, and full sunlight for optimal growth. It has a deep, fibrous root system, allowing it to adapt to diverse soil conditions. Propagation is primarily through grafting, ensuring consistent fruit quality and tree vigor. Native to Southeast Asia, oranges have a long history of cultivation and are now grown globally, with major production regions including Brazil, the United States, and Spain. Rich in vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants, oranges are consumed fresh, juiced, or used in culinary and industrial applications. They play a significant role in global trade and are celebrated for their refreshing flavor and health benefits. The orange tree’s adaptability, combined with its cultural and economic importance, has made it one of the most extensively cultivated fruit trees in the world. 

  1. Health Benefits of Orange:- 

  Some of the health benefits of Orange fruit are given below. 

 

  • Oranges are an excellent source of vitamin C, strengthening immunity. 

  • They promote heart health by lowering blood pressure and reducing inflammation. 

  • High fiber content supports healthy digestion and prevents constipation. 

  • Antioxidants improve skin health and combat aging signs. 

  • They reduce the risk of kidney stones due to their citric acid content. 

  • Oranges support eye health with vitamin A and beta-carotene. 

 

Soil Requirement for Orange:


Orange farming requires well-drained, sandy loam or loamy soils rich in organic matter and nutrients. The ideal soil pH ranges from 5.5 to 7.5, ensuring optimal nutrient availability. The soil should be deep (at least 1 meter) to support proper root development and must not be prone to waterlogging. High salinity levels should be avoided as oranges are sensitive to salt. Regular soil testing, along with balanced fertilization and irrigation, ensures healthy growth and high yields.     

How did we plant it?

1. Choose the right spot: We Select a sunny location with well-drained, fertile soil and clear it of weeds and debris.

2. Dig the hole: We Dug a hole that is big enough for the Sampling.



3. Plant the sappling: We Placed the sapling in the hole, spread its roots gently, and fill the hole with soil, ensuring the trunk base remains above the soil.


4.Water Thoroughly: We Watered the sapling deeply after planting to help the soil sets and support root growth.



5. Add mulch and Care:We Spreaded mulch around the base (keeping it away from the trunk) and water regularly to keep the soil moist, especially during the first few months
